Some stories are simply too unlikely to script.
XPAT is one of those.
 

Spanning decades, different creative paths, and a 12,000-kilometre move from South Africa to New Zealand, three experienced musicians unexpectedly came together in the quiet suburb of Tawa, just north of Wellington.

Their chemistry goes much deeper than coincidence. Frontman and producer Chaz Nielsen brings a strong background from the South African metal underground, joining forces with bassist Kriss Kadawer, a longtime figure in the SA extreme metal scene. Rounding out the powerful trio is Finlay Malherbe, a producer, songwriter, and classically trained percussionist whose skills in blues and fusion add an intricate, hard-hitting rhythmic base.

Blending post-grunge edge, nu-metal heaviness, classic rock attitude, and the intensity of extreme metal, XPAT creates heavy, visceral hard rock built on melodic hooks and hypnotic grooves. No trend-following, no algorithmic tricks, just raw, uncompromising hard rock music on their own terms.

After an explosive debut show in May 2026 and the release of their hard-hitting single "Homeostasis," XPAT is bringing their sharp sound to Wellington and beyond, showing what happens when three determined musical paths come together into something undeniable.
